Chapter 1 Mack

“C’mon, Alley, we gotta go,” I holler from the car. Damn girl is always taking her sweet time getting ready to go anywhere. I’ve been ready for like forty minutes now and she’s still in her stocking feet! I honk the horn and she sticks her head out her bedroom window, her tits hanging out of her slip. “Give the neighbors a show why don’t ya?”

She looks down and shrugs. “Ain’t nothing the kid across the way ain’t seen before, not like I close the curtains to get dressed.”

“Put your damn dress on and get your ass down here!” I swear if I had somewhere in this outfit to put my gun, I’d have shot this girl, she’s making me so damn crazy.

“Calm down, Mackenzie, or you’ll blow a vein or something.” Heather chuckles from the backseat. She always calls me by my full name when I need calming, it’s the motherly trick and strangely, it works on me, but only with her. Probably because she’s got that momma bear thing going on better than I do, but two kids by twenty-three will do that to you.

The three of us couldn’t be more different. Heather is straight out of Kentucky, sweet as pie but wild as a feral cat if you piss her off, got pregnant right out of high school, had two babies, then found herself divorced by twenty-two. Allison, or Alley as we call her, is a perky Southern California girl, an actress with a good gig on one of those daytime serials. Me? I’m a New England Yankee, born and bred in the suburbs, who decided law enforcement was the way to go.       We met at Berkley our freshman year and have been best friends ever since.

This weekend is supposed to be our big weekend. I don’t often get time off, being a cop in Los Angeles isn’t easy, especially in my department, Special Victims. My gut instincts have taken me far and I’m good at my job, but it wears you thin after a while. This weekend is a chance to hang with my besties and blow off some much-needed steam.

“Let’s rock and roll!” Alley comes tearassing out the front door.

“Lock it, ya twit!” I shout. Girl would have us robbed blind if I didn’t constantly remind her to lock the damn doors!

“Huh? Oh, yeah… Sorry.” She turns on her heel and goes back, then skips on over to us like we haven’t been waiting all damn day for her.

“You ready, Marilyn?” Heather teases, smacking the back of Alley’s seat. “Whoop! I ain’t got no kids, y’all ain’t got no work, and the city calls! Let’s par-Tay!”

Heather can be such a goof. I smile, pulling the Frontier out of the driveway.

We head out to Central L.A. to The Onyx Lounge. I’ve never been and Alley has been talking about it for months, so I let her make the reservations. The place is outstanding! Real leather studded club chairs and red velvet wing chairs, none of those crappy wooden ones that hurt your ass after twenty minutes. Soft overhead lights, candles on the tables, and fabric on the walls, long red curtains to the sides of the windows. Just beautiful.

We get our seats and my ass is happy to sink down into the soft buttery leather goodness. Now, this is fine dining, just hope I can afford the food. I make decent money, but still, I don’t want to go broke on night one of our weekend out. I still have to pay for my third of the bungalow we got at The Casa Del Mar in Santa Monica. It’s a thirty-minute drive from here, so we’ll be checking in around seven, which works perfect, gives us time to freshen up before hitting the clubs. We’ll do some dancing and maybe, if I’m lucky, get a little action.

The girls order salads and I just roll my eyes as the waiter looks at me.

“Yeah, I’ll take the cheeseburger, medium rare, add sautéed mushrooms, extra fries, and I’ll also take a side of mixed veggies,” I smirk as they look at me.

      “Seriously?” Heather questions.

“I mean where do you plan to put all that?” Alley blurts outs. “If I even look at a hamburger I gain twenty pounds!”

“Guys, with my exercise regime, I eat what I want, besides I need the protein to keep up with you lushes all night.”

They just giggle at me as the waiter leaves.

We have our dinner and the girls have a couple of cocktails. I knew they would, but I’ve gotta drive, at least for now. Once we get to the hotel, we’ll Uber it for the night. I peel Alley up and we pay. A hundred bucks with tip for nothing!     Sheesh, but I’m guessing we got away cheap considering it was top shelf liquor. We pile back into the Frontier and are off to the hotel.
